How to Play

There are 15 locations marked on this map. Each of these locations has a song named after it. The goal is to guess as many songs as you can!

You can play a 30-second clip of the song. Just like in Wordle, you then type in what you think this song is called.

The good news is that each answer is a real place, and your guesses do not have to be actual words.

Here's what those colored squares mean:
Grey = the letter is not present in the answer
Light pink = the letter is present in the answer, but not at that position
Hot pink = the letter is present in the answer at that position

Methodology

Collected street names and public spaces (parks, neighborhoods) from NYC Open Data. Searched for these using Spotify's API to get a list of songs whose names matched. After manual analysis to confirm that these are actually places in NY (ex. there are multiple Mulberry Streets across the country), picked the most popular songs and plotted them on a map in geoJSON, moved the coordinates to Datawrapper, and finished the map using Illustrator/ai2html.

For the game itself, used Javascript to build on the core game 'Wordled'. Audio is embedded in HTML elements and played using the autoplay feature.
