Virginia sees an influx in state-to-state migration for the first time in four years

The Census Bureau recently released annual US population changes on the state, county, and city levels for 2024.

The rate of international migration into the state increased as well, following an upward trend since 2020 with a record 56,155 international migrants in 2024. Nearly 30% of this population moved into Fairfax County, offsetting its negative rate of domestic migration. That number might change under the Trump administration as law enforcement cracks down on immigration in the state.
